A now traditional walk through one of the most highly regarded prefabricated housing estates with Martin Maleček, historian of Lesná.
Lesná, built on undeveloped land in the 1960s, is exceptional among housing estates in several respects. Perhaps its most frequently praised feature is its integration with greenery – the apartment buildings can almost disappear behind the surrounding trees. It also stands out for its carefully considered urban plan. Designed for 20,000 residents, the estate had excellent transport connections with the city centre from the outset as well as comprehensive public amenities. Last but not least, it boasts an extensive collection of outdoor artworks that has been proposed for cultural heritage protection.
