The Hus House in Vinohrady, built between 1930 and 1935 to a design by architect Pavel Janák, underwent a renovation by Pavla Melková and Miroslav Cikán in 1999–2000. Janák was inspired by the Protestant church studies of German architect Otto Bartning, particularly the glass-walled church presented at the Pressa exhibition in Cologne in 1928. The complex also includes a columbarium, a memorial space for urns, created in 1938 by converting a theatre hall to a design by architect Jiří Jakub. It is the largest columbarium in the Czech Republic. A second floor was added in 1947. The interior features a sculpture The Last Judgment by sculptor Jaroslav Horejc on the staircase, and on the wall a fresco The Path to the Light, depicting the transfer of purified souls across the sea of forgetfulness, painted by František Jakub, father of architect Jiří Jakub.
Rush inside! Open 1–4 pm + guided tour at 3 pm with Pavla Melková, co-author of the renovation.
