From the 1960s onwards, official housing policy in Czechoslovakia began to change. A range of financial incentives and legislative measures led to a sharp increase in the construction of family houses, whether individually or through housing cooperatives. Although construction at the time was limited by the available range of building materials and standardised designs, high-quality individual buildings as well as larger developments were created. Several extensive groups of family houses can be found on the slopes of Palacký Hill, and their surprising variety of types and distinctive character make them some of the most successful examples in Brno.
